I am looking at all of the posts and the IPC web page and as close as I can get to figuring out where the IPC was held is Perry County. I assume you picked a big patch of the Hoosier National forest and said have at it? Is this a super secret location that is only given out with the entry? (Along with a secret handshake and a decoder ring Big Grin)

I have always hesitated entering calling contests because of the lack if knowledge of the local terrain and private ground making it difficult to be successful. Turning everyone loose with equal access to all ground truly makes it a challenge of who can read the topo maps and pick the best locations for the stands. It sounds like a blast and I will have to get a team together next year and come join the fun.

Bummy checking the map

I can setup on this soft ground anyday.

The location of the headquarters is only shared with registered hunters, along with schedules and other details. Oddly enough; the folks most concerned with details rarely even register, and the guys who sign up year after year just couldn't care less if the HQ is 5 miles south of last year or if we start the photo shoot an hour earlier! They come to have a good time, meet some friends and chase predators. They let organizers worry about the rest. Smiler

The Hoosier National Forest is a big portion of the huntable property but contestants are not confined to those tracts. There are hundreds of thousands of public acres for teams to choose from... everyone has the same access... covering several counties in Southern, Southwestern and Central Indiana.

Some guys made stands almost 2 hours away from the headquarters while organizers listened to coyotes as they lounged on the front porch. Everyone has their own stratagy; with aerial photos, updated maps and early scouting missions but any advantage is only as good as the tread on your boots.

I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard "it only took that many animals to win?" or "THAT'S all there is to the rifle contest?". I just smile everytime I hear those words. We've hosted some of the finest callers and best shooters in the region and consistantly raised their eyebrows in humility. This isn't 300 yard benchrest shooting, these aren't cornrow coyotes and we ain't talking about no gentle topography.

My only advice to a team considering joining us for the 2009 Indiana Predator Challenge is... bring the right attitude, make some new friends and have a good time. The only folks that haven't returned to this competition over and over again are the guys that came in with the wrong mindset.

This was my first year at the IPC, I met alot of great people and had some of the best food Ive every had. We just couldnt put it together for a kill. The terrain is awsome and Im already preparing for next year. Once again, thanks to everyone involved.......I had great time and will be back next year. Congrats to all who killed, shooting contest winner, and of course the IPC winners...thanks again.

Well team Regulator had a great time. We gave it everything we had to try and win but knew we was in big trouble when we couldnt knock anything down after the first check in. I think we was following team Savage and callin every spot that they done killed every thing alive at haha.

How I won the shootin contest and didnt even know the IPC sign was a target I will never know. I still feel like an idiot...

Thanks to Jason and everyone involved with doin this hunt every year. and congrats to Team Savage for steppin it up and spankin us in the end. Also I want to thank everyone that comes and gives it there all every year. It is a very tough hunt to win with such great hunters that enter every year. Lookin forward to next year.

The countdown begins....

One year from today at 11a.m., the 2009 Indiana Predator Challenge begins! I've pieced together about $2,050 worth of prizes in the last three days: and expect to hand those out to a wide variety of contestants aside from the top two placing teams. Heaviest coyote, smallest coyote, first harvest, youngest hunter, worst shooter in the rifle contest, best photo from the weekend... the list goes on and on... we'll give away a TON of prizes across the board next year.

Like other teams, we didn't connect on any fur, but we should have if i would have let that dog come in another mile and a half before i let er rip! I guess my next purhcase will be a big 50 cal. BMG! Big Grin maybe i can connect then! I believe that all of the tread on my boots are now gone from all of the walking that the yodels had done, but im not complaining! I seen a whole lot of land that way, and i dont think there is any better way of seeing it than that of hoofing it! If anyone ever wants to hunt with dad, then i can guarantee you that you will feel like and old pack mule from all of the walking!
The guys that attended the ipc were a real great group of fellers, the new ones and the ones that came back for more! Thanks to everyone that set it all up, helped out, and did everything right to make this such a GREAT event! Game Chef i blame you for cooking such an AWESOME meal that i felt like a swollen dog tick and didn't think i could move after that! And Jason keep up the good work on trying to better an already AWESOME EVENT! Thanks Again!

JRB,If my calculations are correct,February 1st next year is on a Sunday,so the IPC should not interfere with the thing it interfered with this year.

I can't wait until next year.I definatly plan to hunt.
I also think I finally figured out what I need to do to kill coyotes around here, pretty much hunt them just like I do turkeys.
Cover some miles.Walk,walk,walk.

Good pictures fellas. I wondered why my ass was wet at every stand. Probably sitting in the last hunter's restroom. Our team won't forget that weekend any time soon. I haven't worked so hard for one coyote in my life. Nice work in the rifle competition Pete. It almost hurt watching you search for that last target after knocking down the first four. Congratulations to everyone who managed to knock even one dog down. We had high hopes after the Friday but spent the next two days chasing.

I have been getting a lot of calls and emails about the 2009 Indiana Predator Challenge lately. I wanted to bring this thread up to the top so folks could take a look at last years event and get an idea what our events are like. I’ve told several guys to come here and check it out: so here it is!

The recent buzz around IPC 2009 seems to come from an advertisement ran in a popular predator hunting magazine this month. In error, they printed "Registration Open" but registration for the 2009 event does not actually start up until July 15th. On July 15th you will notice the registration paperwork is available on www.IndianaPredatorChallenge.com

Last year was a great event but we've actually put a lot of effort into making 2009 even better! As of right now, here are some improvements we have on tap.

More prizes: From the heaviest coyote to youngest hunter... more folks will be in the running for prizes ALL WEEKEND LONG regardless of their placement in the overall team scoring.

More gifts: Each registered member will take home a handful of predator related items and IPC apparel. As a rough estimate, each person will take home at least $38 worth of stuff weather they win one of the many prizes available or not!

More Food: Although we’ve been known for our awesome complimentary meal in years past- this one is going to fill you up and then some! We’ll have a couple-hundred pounds of slow roasted pork BBQ on hand with all the side trimmings to stuff your face!

New Rifle Contest Twist Everyone knows our rifle contest is always a crowd pleaser but this year it’ll knock your socks off. We’ve made tweaks and adjustments in the past- but THIS time it’ll separate the men from the boys. Throw all the gimmicks out the window this year- bring all the talent you’ve got.

There are a handful of other items on tap but I cannot share them right now. I just wanted to give everyone an update and let you know we’re still working hard on improving our event! Also, this weekend will be a great chance for new folks to meet the IPC organizers and some of the contestants during the MPH Shindig. I’ve invited a dozen potential teams to visit us this weekend- hope some of them make it out!

Never Regret: At one point, everything you did was exactly what you wanted.
